The next weight, free

Both apps can raise the weight for you. In Hevy that is Hevy Trainer, part of Hevy Pro: it generates a program and adds weight once you reach the top of the rep range on every prescribed set.

StackUp does it for free, on every split, preset or your own. Reps above your target range mean more weight next time, inside it the weight stays, below it the weight comes down. The whole rule is on this site.

No limits in the free app

Hevy's free version allows up to 4 routines and 7 custom exercises, and shows the last 3 months of workout and statistics history; the longer views are Hevy Pro. Everything in StackUp is free, with no limits: every split, every exercise and your whole history, without an account.

When Hevy is the better choice

  • You use an iPhone, or want to log on your watch.
  • You want to plan and review your training on a computer.
  • You want to follow friends and share workouts.
  • You are moving from Strong: Hevy imports Strong's export file.

Common questions

Is StackUp really free?

Yes. Everything in the app is free: no in-app purchases, no ads, and sync between phones is free too. The one paid part on the roadmap is a web app for the desk.

Can I bring my Hevy history to StackUp?

Not yet. Importing workouts from other trackers is on the roadmap, and it will be free.

Is StackUp on iPhone?

No. StackUp is Android only.

How does StackUp pick the next weight?

From your reps against your target range: above it, the weight goes up; inside it, it stays; below it, it comes down. For weight exercises, after three sessions below the range in a row, it suggests one deload to about 90 %.
